Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Lakeridge Health's Oshawa and Ajax Pickering sites are home to our Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) where we care for our littlest patients. Our state-of-the-art 20-bed unit, run by a skilled team of doctors and nurses, provides a range of therapies and specialized treatment for newborn babies.

Our level of expertise allows us to accept babies transferred from intensive care at Sick Kids, Mount Sinai and Sunnybrook, in order for Durham parents to have their baby closer to home. We are also a regional hub for babies in need of intensive care from Peterborough to Cobourg and beyond.

Ajax-Pickering has a level 2B special care nursery. This means that the hospital can deliver and care for babies as premature as 32 weeks gestation. Special care nursery services include supporting premature infants, administering antibiotics, phototherapy and more.

At Lakeridge Health, we believe that parents are our partners and welcome them to the NICU any time, day or night. Rooms are available for overnight stays so parents can stay close to their baby.
