COVID-19 Update

VIRTUAL CLASSES BEING OFFERED

During these unsettling times of physical distancing we are happy to offer virtual prenatal birthing and breastfeeding classes. These classes will provide evidence-based information to help you prepare for the birth and early parenting.

The course content will be the same as our face to face classes with the only exception being there will be no hospital tour.

The classes will be taught through Zoom and include interactive discussion, a PowerPoint and videos.

The birthing classes are offered in a two-day format (9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.), or a four-week series (6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. weeknights) at a cost of $150.00.

The breastfeeding class is offered on a weeknight, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at a cost of $20.00.

Ajax-Pickering, Oshawa and Port Perry Hospitals

Classes are open to all expectant parents regardless of where you plan to give birth.

Prenatal Class Schedule

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

Available weeknights from 6 pm - 8 pm. Please see class schedules (above) for available dates.

Breastfeeding is healthy for both mom and baby.

Get off to a good start and learn the benefits of skin-to-skin contact, how to manage early feeding challenges and how to make informed feeding choices. Couples will also have an opportunity to practice holds and discuss questions and concerns.

Class size is limited to eight couples. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend with their partner or support person. You can register for the Prenatal Breastfeeding Class when you register for birthing classes or by calling 905-576-8711 ext. 34116. The cost of the class is $20 if you register at the time of your Birthing Class booking or $30 without the Birthing Class.

Babies Clinic

Lakeridge Health's Baby Assessment, Breastfeeding, Information, Education and Support (Babies Clinic) provides information and support to families during the first few days after birth.

It includes a Discharge Class for families leaving the hospital and an Outpatient Clinic for newborns referred for follow-up care after they leave the hospital. Both run 7 days a week at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

The Discharge Class provides families with standardized education and materials to give them the tools they need to care for their baby at home. The classes are in a group-setting to provide families with the opportunity to meet other new parents and discuss concerns and ask questions together.
